It’s hard to believe, but the T-shirt is over 100 years old!

Of course, before it took its already iconic T-shape, to which it owes its name, it had been altered over time. It all started around 1900 when Cooper Underwear Company introduced an alternative to the one-piece undergarment (one combining drawers and long-sleeved with buttons on the front used in 19th century) called “union suit”.

Cooper´s designers removed buttons from it and cut the “suit” into two separate top and bottom undergarments. The top in its simplified form was later advertised as a “bachelor undershirt”- stretchy enough to be pulled over the head. “No safety pins — no buttons — no needle — no thread ” ran the slogan aimed at bachelors with no sewing skills.
